Occupational rehabilitation for people with mental illness
Shavim NGO for Occupational Rehabilitation
We have been promoting an array of factories and workshops for over 35 years, to teach skills and work habits, provide guidance, encourage skills and nurture capabilities, and find dignified work for anyone seeking our services. And we will continue to do this for the next 35 years.
Shavim was founded to offer professional occupational rehabilitation to people with a psychiatric disability. It works to train, instruct, and guide people coping with psychiatric problems, and people with special needs to give them the knowledge and toolkit to fulfill their occupational potential and find a suitable job.
Shavim focuses on placing our service recipients in dignified jobs. Occupational rehabilitation for people with psychiatric disability is much more than “just” integrating them into the workforce and providing them with a source of income. For us, occupational rehabilitation is also, and mainly, about restoring your dignity and strengthening your self-image and confidence, fostering warm and stable social relationships, leading to financial independence and encouraging the courage and desire to move onward and upward. Because otherwise, it’s just a job half-done. It’s clear why the occupational rehabilitation process must:
✔ Place the individual at the center and treat him as an equal (regarding equality among people and also with regards to intrinsic value)
✔ Find and to invent the tools that will help you move forward
✔ Match the job to the individual’s skills and abilities
✔ Provide close and personalized guidance
✔ Listen to and guide the individual
✔ Open doors for him
✔ Prompt him to try things, to believe in himself and to succeed
Two numerical data will light our path to your success:
10 to 1 ratio
Every individual that comes to us for occupational rehabilitation is assisted by more than 10 consultants, social workers, coordinators, headquarters staff, and employment initiative developers throughout the employment continuity.
Success rates
We have a 67% success rate in job placement for a population with a relatively intermediate functional ability. This is even higher than the success rates of the commercial placement agencies (only 60%) like AllJobs, JobMaster, etc., which appeal to a population with a high degree of functioning.

Our advantages
From among all of Shavim’s advantages, we’d like to mention the one advantage that we believe is the most important - we care! The founders of Shavim built the NGO on this foundation of mutual responsibility.
Our objective is to offer people with mental illness professional training and to integrate them in the workforce in sheltered workshops and in employment initiatives. The occupational rehabilitation process strives to maximize each person’s success according to his preferences, skills and capabilities. For example, in order to address a unique and specific population, we developed an occupational consulting model for the Haredi population.
We achieve the goal we set for ourself while ensuring: that the individual with the mental illness is at the center, thinking outside the box, and being uncompromisingly committed to the process...
What is occupational rehabilitation
Sometimes people experience turbulent or traumatic events that lead to a regression in their day-to-day ability to function and a mental breakdown that makes it difficult or impossible for them to hold down a job or to lead a normal life.
This is where Shavim NGO enters the picture. Shavim focuses on occupational rehabilitation for people with mental illness. The goal of occupational rehabilitation is to help you acquire a profession that is compatible with your capabilities, skills, and ambitions, and to reintroduce you to the workforce and later to open doors to the free market.
The process includes: assessing and identifying your vocational abilities and ambitions, developing a personalized occupational rehabilitation plan, training for employment skills in sheltered workshops, supplemental education, developing employment initiatives, finding employers and placement in a suitable employment framework...
