Guidance in sheltered employment

Sheltered employment is given as part of the rehabilitation basket of services for people with mental illness. Shavim offers professional employment solutions such as sheltered workshops, training courses, and various initiatives Shavim operates, according to the person’s functioning.

Sheltered employment for people with mental illness undoubtedly requires 110% sensitivity, attentiveness and commitment. By us! By each and every one of the 900 people who work and volunteer at Shavim.

Our goal is to lead you by the hand to the free labor market and to continue leading you later and beyond. The process resembles climbing a tall ladder - one rung after the other - with sensitivity and patience while giving reinforcement, encouragement and guidance.

The key word here is sensitivity

Each rung of the ladder prepares you to safely step on the higher rung and gets you used to lifting your head and looking up, and to stop looking and feeling down. And now, right before we continue explaining about the process, let us explain what sheltered employment is all about.

It’s an occupational rehabilitation service for people with psychiatric disability given through Shavim’s nation-wide array of sheltered workshops. Through the array of sheltered workshops and training initiatives, Shavim expands the vocational horizon of the people we serve, and thanks to the extensive employment initiatives it opens doors to a wide array of jobs. Recently, the first instance of the Guidance Plus Centers initiatve went underway, which we will expand upon later. And now about you:

The terms rehabilitation basket of services and occupational framework for people with mental illness are intertwined since without eligibility for a rehabilitation basket of services for people with mental illness it is not possible to join our array of sheltered workshops and the occupational training courses. If you’ve already contacted a rehabilitation basket of services committee and received eligibility, you’ve already taken a huge step forward. As far as we’re concerned, anyone who wants to receive eligibility is basically stating that they want to move forward, to return to the free labor market and to independent functioning. This is where we come in with a variety of employment solutions.

One of the innovative approaches in the professional training processes is Training Courses. The aim of the initiative is to integrate people coping with mental illness in employment in the free market, and to provide a professional foundation while working in industry. This approach relies on acquiring skills and expertise at the workplace for the purpose of performing the current job or to promote you to a higher position. Aside from exceptions, in most cases the learning is done during a regular job.
